For everyone that has been visiting my site over the years, you've seen many iterations. The latest one lasted quite a while due to my desire not to work on web stuff outside of work. Over the last year or so I have been attempting to hone my craft in XHTML and CSS based designs. If this is a little bit over your head, please read more about web standards and the benefits of XHTML and CSS.
I've read several books, which doesn't necessarily qualify me as a "guru", but it has created an obsession nonetheless. If you're interested in this subject as well, I suggest reading Web Standards Solutions by first. Then move on to his other book Bulletproof Web Design. Next I would read CSS Mastery by .
I'm currently reading Transcending CSS by which has inspired me to redo my site with "transcendant CSS" using MOSe
This is where my challenge comes in. I have decided to post my site "naked", a little early for Naked Day, with all its new found technical advances and standards compliant practices. And then release my new design for the May 1st CSS Reboot which would show off the abilities of XHTML and CSS. This would mean that content truly does come before style and the two should be separate. I will also be taking liberties of providing "Graded Browser Support" (or degrading and/or displaying different designs and enhancements based on browser compliance and capabilities). Therefore if you are using older browsers, like IE 6, you might be left with a less enhanced version due to its inability to perform with the new technologies. Not my problem:
An apporpriate strategy allows every user to consume as much visual and interactive richness as their environment can support. This approach builds a rich experience on top of an accessible core, without compromising that core.
…Support does not mean that everybody gets the same thing…In fact, requiring the same experience for all users creates a barrier to participation.
With that said, more news will be coming...sometime. But I will be working on other areas of the site in the meantime. Isn't it beautiful?!
