Some time back in High School (1999-ish), my uncle Mike asked me to do a painting of my aunt Natalie. He had seen my portrait of Joshua and was hoping for the same. So, he gave me one of their favorite wedding pictures.
I'm not sure why, but I could never get around to figuring out how to paint or draw it. I guess sometimes it's hard to force inspiration even through all of the painting I've done since. Perhaps my transition away from realism was part of the artist-block.
Now, quite a bit of time later (9 years or so), I decided to suprise them with the long awaited portrait. I think I started it because I was challenged by the idea that I may only paint abstract stuff because I'm unable to control paint as well as colored pencils. Or maybe I was intrigued to try and see if I could still draw at all.
Who knows, but it's done! And they were really happy, and I think it came out well too. But, I'm certain this will be my last realistic portrait.
The verse, Proverbs 31, is about a "wife of noble character," which I felt was a good theme for the wedding portrait.
