Prayer

'Prayer' painting

Category:
Artwork
Medium:
Acrylic painting on canvas
Dimensions:
60" x 60"
Date:
2004

"Prayer" is my largest painting, so far. I wanted to paint something big for our kitchen wall. 5 feet square seemed like a good size. The painting itself I planned and reworked for a long time.

I'm not much for telling the audience what they should see. I'd like for the viewer to feel and see what they like. That's the purpose of art, it's different for everyone. However, if I can make the viewer feel how I feel in the painting, then I've accomplised, what I think, I the main reason to create art in the first place.

As abstract as "Prayer" is, what do you see?

My inspiration comes from two sources: Matthew 6:5 and Dali's "Ilse of the Dead," (1880).
