I was asked to develop a logo for Write Impression Résumés by my friend's brother who started a résumé writing service. I felt it would be a good challenge, so I said, "of course!"
It proved to be a challenge. How can you make a slick logo for a résumé writing service, using an "icon", without making it look cheesy? Virtually the only icon any of us could think of (through many weeks of brainstorming) was the fountain pen. I thought of an iron, and made it look retro; felt it was pretty clever, but everyone thought it looked like a dry cleaning service. That'd be the "wrong impression".
Anyway, back to the pen, with the unfortuante tendency to look awkwardly lame. After many sketches and the idea of "CV" I accidentally came across the "C" shaped line with the "V" pen. I didn't want to make it look to much like clipart, so I stayed away from any vector-like realness to the pen. And chose the font to give it a more modern look.
I think it came out pretty well considering the challenge it was.
